Tag der Immunologie 29. April 2014

29.April WELTTAG DER IMMUNOLOGIE

 DOI 2017

Our immune system comprises a multitude of different components and is amazingly well organized.  A myriad of cells and molecules work together in close coordination. Every day the immune system is busy protecting us from pathogens and diseases. Often, we do not even notice that it is at work. Its enormous importance for our health and well-being is reflected by the fact that a failure or a hypersensitivity reaction of the immune system result in severe disorders.

The day of immunology shall make everybody aware of the high relevance of the immune system.

Everybody should be interested in a good working immune system! How can we support the immune system, e.g. by vaccinations? How can we prevent dysfunctions of the immune system? How can a misdirected immune response be restored?

Intense research work has contributed to a better understanding of the immune system. Based on these insights, today some diseases can be successfully treated and even prevented. Still, a lot of questions about the reactions and functionality of the immune system remain unanswered. The day of immunology shall disclose previous achievements of immunological research and draw attention to fields where more research has to be done!
